Training & Testing

SEARC does a Technician test preparation class about twice a year.  This works best if you do some homework before the test, as there is not enough time to teach the material, just to review the test questions.  There will be a testing session for all levels of ham licensing following the class.  More information will be available as classes are scheduled.

To take the test you must have an FRN.  If you are new and do not have an FRN yet please register here: apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do

Testing for all levels of ham license Saturday November 7 at about 5 pm, after the Technician test review is done.  Registration for test required, ham.study/sessions/W7BU.

Testing sessions are scheduled as needed.  If you would like to test for Technician or for upgrade,  contact Ellen,  AA7EN @arrl.net

License Training

This type of class is designed to “teach the test” and is meant to prepare you for passing the Technician Level examination in as short of time as possible. We typically begin this class on a Friday evening from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and then on Saturday from 9:00 am until approximately 4:00 pm. We then administer the licensing test at the conclusion of the class.

For more information about classes contact Mike Gore at SlowGunBoat@gmail.com or any of the clubs officers.

TESTING

We typically test at the end of the Technician preparation class.  Upgrade testing is available at that time also, on prior contact with the testing coordinator, AA7EN @arrl.net.

Testing for any ham radio level is available at other times by contacting Ellen.

Radio Resource Class

Now that you have your license it’s time to learn how to actually use your radio!

The Radio Resource Class takes you through the basics of how to operate your hand held radio. From simple On/Off, Volume, Squelch, and Channel selection information to how to initiate a conversation by radio, we cover everything you need to know to get on the radio and use it effectively.

We cover how to participate in Radio Nets, radio protocol and some basic Do’s and Don’ts of radio operations.  This class takes approximately three hours on a Saturday.

This class is a “Must Do” for the new Ham.

Here is a .pdf of the presentation that will precede the radio practice:
